Our zero-defect approach is built on four pillars: the right process, the right equipment, the right people and the right culture. Each is essential. None can compensate for a weakness in the others. Together, they deliver the consistent, high-quality components that our customers depend on – without defects, without rework and without the cost and delay that quality failures create.

This is not a new commitment for FDL. It is the approach Frank Dudley himself insisted upon when he started the business in 1948. It has never changed.

The Right Process

Prevention-based quality systems that stop defects before they occur. First-piece inspection, in-process controls and documented procedures at every stage.

The Right Equipment

Well-maintained presses, precision tooling and regular calibration. Investment in equipment that delivers consistent, repeatable quality.

The Right People

Experienced teams trained in quality disciplines. Every person accountable for the quality of their work.

The Right Culture

Quality is everyone’s responsibility. We don’t hide problems – we surface them early, investigate thoroughly and put in place permanent solutions.

The most important element of FDL’s zero-defect policy is not a system or a process – it is the culture. Every person at FDL, from the press operative to the managing director, understands that quality is their personal responsibility. It is not someone else’s job to catch mistakes. It is everyone’s job not to make them.

This culture has been built over generations. It starts with the way we recruit, train and develop our teams – selecting people who share our values, and equipping them with the knowledge and tools to deliver zero-defect performance every day.

It continues with the way we handle quality concerns when they arise. We do not hide problems or look for someone to blame. We surface issues early, investigate them thoroughly and put in place genuine, permanent solutions that prevent recurrence.
