Our process has been refined over decades of manufacturing experience and customer feedback. It is designed to reduce risk, shorten lead times and ensure that every component we produce meets your specification and quality requirements – on time, every time.

Whether you are placing a new tooling programme, qualifying a replacement component or managing an ongoing production supply, our process gives you complete visibility and confidence at every stage.

FDL’s manufacturing process is built around the needs of our customers. We understand that every project is different – different components, different volumes, different timelines and different quality requirements. Our process accommodates that diversity while maintaining the consistent standards of quality and communication that our customers depend on.

STAGE 1: Consultation and planning

Understanding your requirements, specifications and production goals.

STAGE 2: Design and engineering support

Working closely with customers to optimise manufacturability and performance, followed by PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) prior to production runs.

STAGE 3: Manufacturing and production

High-quality precision engineering using advanced manufacturing processes.

STAGE 4: Quality assurance

Rigorous inspection and testing procedures to ensure complete compliance.

STAGE 5: Delivery and ongoing support

Reliable supply and continued customer partnership throughout the project life cycle.

Stage 1:
Consultation and Planning

We begin by taking the time to fully understand your requirements, specifications and production goals. Whether you’re looking to develop a new component, optimise an existing part, or scale up production volumes, our team works closely with you to clarify technical details, volumes, lead times and quality expectations. This foundational stage ensures that every project starts with a clear, shared understanding of what success looks like.

Stage 2:
Design and Engineering Support

Once requirements are clear, we move into design and engineering support, working closely with customers to optimise manufacturability and performance. Our engineers review designs for tolerance feasibility, material selection, process suitability and cost efficiency, offering practical suggestions that improve reliability without compromising function. This collaborative approach helps reduce risk, minimise rework and ensure that the final component is both high-performing and efficient to produce.

Stage 3:
Manufacturing and Production

In the production stage, we deliver high-quality precision engineering using advanced manufacturing processes. Our facilities are equipped to handle a wide range of volumes, from prototype runs to sustained series production, while maintaining tight tolerances and consistent quality. Experienced operators, modern equipment and disciplined process control ensure that every component is manufactured to the required standard, on time and within specification.

Stage 4:
Quality Assurance

Quality assurance is embedded throughout production, with rigorous inspection and testing procedures to ensure complete compliance. Incoming materials are checked against approved supplier certificates, in-process inspections are carried out at defined points, and final inspection is performed against acceptance criteria before any component is despatched. Non-conformances are managed through robust CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) processes, ensuring that every issue drives permanent improvement.

Stage 5:
Delivery and Ongoing Support

We believe the relationship doesn’t end at despatch. Our Stage 5 focuses on reliable supply and continued customer partnership throughout the project life cycle. Components are delivered on schedule with full traceability, and we remain available for ongoing support, future orders, design iterations and continuous improvement initiatives. This long-term partnership approach helps our customers build confidence in their supply chain and plan with certainty.
