Frank Dudley Limited began in 1948, when Frank Dudley started pressing metal components in the family garden shed in Birmingham. Using his experience in the toolmaking industry, Frank built a business around three simple principles: quality, commitment to customers, and respect for the people who do the work. More than seventy-five years later, those principles still define everything we do.

Today, FDL is a fourth-generation family business, operating from a modern 57,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Birmingham. We produce metal pressings, stampings, deep drawn components and welded assemblies for some of the world’s leading manufacturers – in automotive, aerospace, commercial vehicles, defence, rail, renewables, agriculture and more.

Frank is no longer with us, but his philosophy is. It guides every decision we make and every component we manufacture.

1948: The Beginning

Frank Dudley founded FDL in his family garden shed in Birmingham, using his toolmaking expertise and a simple philosophy: outstanding work, looking after people, and always putting the customer first.

Growth Through Generations

From the shed to a small workshop to a substantial manufacturing operation – FDL grew steadily through hard work, family values and an uncompromising commitment to quality. After Frank’s passing a lot of the early growth at Frank Dudley was lead by his daughter, Jill Dudley-Toole, MBE, who gave nearly 70 years of dedication to Frank Dudley. Fourth Generation

Today, FDL is a fourth-generation family business operating from a 57,000 sq ft facility, supplying OEM and Tier 1 customers across the UK and internationally – but the culture Frank established has never changed.
